America Gu Zheng Institute, Inc. (AGZI) was established in August 2011. Based on a professional and international development philosophy, AGZI strives to promote international cultural exchange through education and performance programs.
AGZI was built on the foundation of the former Los Angeles Emerging Lotus Gu Zheng Orchestra and Zhao Hui Gu Zheng Music Center. The students from AGZI have won numerous international competition awards. AGZI regularly organizes recitals, international culture exchange programs and concerts. AGZI is empowered by the China Conservatory of Music to administer level tests in the United States. The certificates issued by AGZI are recognized by the China Conservatory of Music.
The institute’s founder, Ms. Zhao Hui, began the study of Gu Zheng at the age of 6 with her mother, Zeng Baocui. She started studying Gu Zheng at very young age under the Gu Zheng grand master Mr. Cao Zheng. Ms. Zhao also studied under Gu Zheng masters Fan Shang-E, Xiang Si-Hua and Yin Qi-Ying. Exploring and mastering the essence of Chinese classical music she integrates the methods and techniques of both the northern and the southern styles, and creatively combines traditional Chinese music with western music. Ms. Zhao has presented many successful performances and concerts both in the US and abroad.
The instructors at AGZI are musicians and educators from China. Materials used for instructions are compatible with those of the China Conservatory of Music as well as the standard requirements for the international level tests. Moreover, professional training methods will be applied to achieve the best results. Through teaching and actively participating in community performing arts activities and events, AGZI strives to nurture and cultivate students’ artistic talent. It’s our believe that through the process of learning and character building, students will develop good study and work habits that would last and benefit them for the rest of their lives.
By working together and doing our best, we will learn, enjoy, enrich and promote the greatness of the Chinese national treasure － Gu Zheng.
