Please be advised that our records indicate on 4/12/2014, you were involved in an incident at a Walmart Stores, Inc. location that is considered shoplifting, theft or fraud by the state in which the facility is located. As a result of this incident, you are liable for a civil demand in the amount $50.00. This civil demand is being made in accordance with Maryland Courts And Judicial Proceedings Code Ann. § 3-1301 to § 3-1307 which allows retailers to recover a civil demand as a result of such incidents.
The Law Offices of Michael Ira Asen, P.C. has been hired by Walmart Stores, Inc. to settle this civil demand. This civil claim is separate from, and in addition to, any criminal proceedings that may have arisen from the incident and is not an attempt to collect a debt.
This letter is a demand that you pay $50.00 in satisfaction of this civil demand, within 30 days of this letter. If you do not believe that you are the person responsible for the payment of this claim, please notify The Law Offices of Michael Ira Asen, P.C. within 30 days of receipt of this letter, so that we can obtain verification of the responsible party.
Pursuant to §3-1302, you are held liable to pay a civil penalty equal to twice the retail value of the merchandise, but not less than $50.00 nor more than $1,000.00.
