关于海关客户边境工作人员能否搜查旅客/入境者包括美国公民等的随身物品的问题，CBP海关边境服务处的官方网站已经有相关问答：
What gives Customs and Border Protection (CBP) the authority to ask me personal questions and to examine my belongings?
To keep our borders secure, everyone who arrives at a U.S. port of entry is subject to inspection. We pledge to treat you courteously and professionally. We do not assume that you have done anything wrong - because very few travelers actually violate the law. As part of your inspection, you may be asked questions on:
· Your citizenship,
· The nature of your trip, and
· Anything you are bringing back to the United States that you did not have with you when you left.
We may also examine your baggage, including electronic equipment, or your car, which we have the legal authority to do. If we are checking your baggage, you will need to place it on the exam station and open it. (After the exam is completed, you will be asked to repack and close the baggage.) If at any point you are unhappy with the way you are being treated, ask to speak to a CBP supervisor.
因为美国**在911后，认为当美国境内安全和边境受到不安全因素因素影响的时候，国家利益高于个人利益。
CBP应该“courteously and professionally” 有礼貌并且专业的搜查入境者的随身行李。如果如今人员感觉到“unhappy” 有抱怨或者疑问，可以联系CBP的管理人员得到帮助。
同样，2016年11月开始：
美国开始实行签证更新电子系统EVUS，是指持有十年有效B1/B2, B1或B2（访问者）签证的****所使用的个人基本信息在线定期更新系统， 以协助其赴美旅行。除了有效签证以外，上述旅客必须完成EVUS 登记，以便获得许可进入美国. 并不等于说中国十年签证作废，只是在2016年11月以后的入境者，需要提前到网上注册EVUS信息，DS-160申请表上的内容应该与EVUS系统保持一致，取得CBP美国边境海关的信任和安全许可。
